TLDR Anno 1602 is the most simple game of the series, yet nice to play to see where all comes from. I believe I read that walking citizens in the game die randomly if their way to the market (where they buy food) is too long and the supply runs out while they are walking there.

In fact its just as difficult as modern games of the series and even had a statistics screen (even similar to the one we have in 1800), different climate zones and the like.įor a full impression on how detailed and thourough Anno 1503 was programmed search for Anno 1503 guide and look for a "faq/tips"-collection. At the time it was released many players thought it was too hard. If you want to play a retro Anno, still have a challenge and even see some features that were way ahead of their time, play Anno 1503. If you just play an endless game and know gameplay tactics from Anno 1404 or 1800 you will do fine and be done with the major stuff (getting to Aristocrats) in under 5 hrs of gameplay. The gameplay is very simple in comparison to the newer Annos.
